I am from......

It's been two weeks of school so far and I just got my first paper back.
I got an A on it!! With LOTS of positive notes on them from my professor. Definitely made my day :)

The same professor asked us(the students) to write an "I am from.." poem since we are reading the Odyssey by Homer and it has to do a lot with where people come from, how does that make them who they are, who are they today? who will they be tomorrow? and how does that co infer with where one is from. Mine went a little something like this.....

I am from coconut trees and sandy beaches.
I am from dictatorship and late independence.
I am from racism and beautiful shades of color.
I am from the most beautiful place I have ever seen.
I am from slaves and royalty.
I am from a miracle mother and heavenly father.
I am from merengue beats and corruption.
I am from rice beans and chicken with platanos on the side.
I am from the purest fruits found on this earth.
I am from Life, liberty and the Pursuit of happiness.
I am from La isla Hispaniola.
I am from “why are you reading a book, you should be in the kitchen!”
I am from the dirty.
I am from the birth of hip-hop.
I am from the childhood of hip-hop.
I am from books and bastards.
I am from the haze capital of the country.
I am from Tainos and Africans.
I am from Spaniards and the French.
I am from many places that all have a part of me.
I am from the abyss of beauty that is hiding underneath this world.

I actually kind of learned from myself by writing this short poem. Try it, when you got some free time :)
