Can we please have a moment of silence?
More like a minute,
An hour,
A month,
Maybe even a year of silence
For all those burned in the ovens of Auschwitz
For all those weeks of the Rwandan Genocide
Silence for the Mirabal sisters’ courage
Silence for those in Darfur right now
Silence for the women in Juarez, Mexico
Silence for human trafficking
Silence for the homosexuals who get bashed on for simply loving who they love
Silence for those pregnant teenage mothers that the world looks down upon
Silence for addicts who don’t have anyone to help them stop
Silence for the oppressed
Silence for all the women around the world getting beaten
Silence for those who don’t love
Silence for me, for her, for him, for us, for we, para nosotros.
Let this be the loudest silence you ever hear so even the deaf can hear it.
So the blind can see all the hate.
So the mute can speak for those who aren’t aloud to
For everyone to convert this silence into love,
So maybe the mute can feel the love too and begin to speak.
Now can we please have a moment of love?
